School Daze
Tuesday. 8.24.10 11:13 pm
Well, school started last week. Today concluded the first full week of class.
So far, besides actually being in class, it's boring-like. Most of my friends from last year have transferred out and I haven't really connected with anyone else yet. Hopefully this will change next week!

In seven days and an hour is what's called "Campus Kick-Off". This is a day when, for a few hours around lunchtime, student groups, college reps and campus departments and services all set up their information booths, hand out freebies (if you've got the budget) and the school usually provides free pizza or something. Often there's karaoke. Radiohead's "Creep" gets sung too many times; it makes me want to nearly hate the song by the day is over. Which is sad because I really like that song.

  This semester I am taking
  • Western Civilization
  • Personal Finance
  • Composition II
  • Keyboarding and Formatting I

So far Western Civ is the most interesting. We have assigned readings and discussion questions we write about them but half of our class time in a given week is actually discussing the text. Neato.
Keyboarding is boring. Personal Finance is... ok. Composition II is, well, comp 2. I will survive!

Seeing as it's a school night, nearly 11:30pm and I am tired, I'm gonna cut it here and go to bed. Yeah!

  I have accepted this challenge.
Also, kind of an update. (Two birds with one stone!)

100 FACTS ABOUT ME
And how!

01. In real life, I am visible
02. I own and operate an Apple eMac G4 with Mac OS 10.4.11
03. I really need a new computer
04. I live in my parent's basement
05. But it's okay because I'm a 21-year-old girl
06. My iTunes music library is currently 58.54 GB, containing over 15,000 items
07. It is because of this that I bought an external hard drive a couple years ago (to put it all on)
08. Last week I busted my knee
09. So it's in a knee brace
10. It's super annoying and a huge pain
11. At least it's not as bad as crutches. I do not like using them: so bulky, and my armpits got tired and sore after a couple days of using them...
12. I own a record player!
13. And records!
14. They're not that good, but they're mine. And fun!
15. My mom sells Mary Kay skin care and cosmetics. I have used them exclusively since I was about 10 (when my mom started)
16. I like to say that I love music (which I do) but I don't really keep up with artists and what's happenin' and stuff, which makes me feel I don't look like I care about music and just lazy.
17. I mean, I am lazy (too often), but I really do love music.
18. Music is my favorite thing in the universe.
19. Next to that would probably be friends.
20. And Scott Pilgrim.
21. OMG SCOTT PILGRIM: I absolutely love this comic book series (6 volumes long). LOVE LOVE LOVE
22. I had meant to go see the movie this afternoon, but I totally forgot when I came home tired from running errands with my mom earlier today.
23. I really wanted to see Scott Pilgrim vs. The World opening weekend, to show my support.
24. In general, I usually don't care for female vocalists.
25. Some exceptions to this rule include Alison Krauss, Adele, Tegan and Sara and Lykke Li
26. I don't like having longish fingernails. I like to keep them short and my fingertips useable, thank you!
27. My hair is naturally (lightish?) brown and straight. If the hairs themselves were not so thin, I think they might wave a little more. (If that makes sense)
28. I LOVE LOVE LOVE candles, especially the smell of (good) burning stuff, like a candle that's just been blown out, flowers, food and wood.
29. I have this bear I "made" at Build-A-Bear that has a little "heart" in it that, when you press it, makes it sound and feel like a heartbeat. I find it creepy. (My mom thinks it's cute)
30. I have been a Beatles fan since junior high. Pretty much, when I got the internet at age 12 I read up on everything Beatles, checked out all the Beatles Anthology videos and CDs from the library.
31. I still really like the Beatles (a LOT), I'm just not so fanatic about them, now.
32. When I find something I like (i/e a movie, actor, something) I tend to obsess about it and download photos, read stuff about it, look up related or similar other works, etc. My worst spell was when I read through the Twilight book series and the first movie was coming out. It lasted at least a month. >_<
33. I am not a huge fan of Twilight. It was fun to read, but not great. At all.
34. That said, my favorite character is Jacob. Most everyone else is either boring or sucks.
35. I slightly feel pedophle-ish when I see Taylor Lautner without a shirt because, while he is very nicely built, his face just screams "OMGLOOKIMSIXTEEN!!!LOLZ!!!!1!!" to me.
36. I'm not sure why I mentioned that. o_O
37. I like the movie Mean Girls with Lindsay Lohan.
38. I do not like Lindsay Lohan at all, ever. Her voice sounds funny/off. And other things.
39. My favorite animals are tigers, black panthers and lions.
40. I really like big dogs. I can barely imagine having a small dog. I've seen them - they are TINY! I prefer big dogs. Like labrador retrievers! :D
41. I own over 10 decks of playing cards. (Not counting UNO)
42. Some of my favorite card games are Egyptian Rat Screw (ERS), speed and Crazy Eights
43. My favorite color is red
44. I own 11 band Ts.
45. If I had to pick ONE favorite band, it would probably have to be The White Stripes.
46. If I had to pick just ONE band to listen to for the rest of my life, it would probably The Beatles: their catalog is stylistically diverse enough, I could get by with it for some months. Maybe years.
47. I need a new computer chair. This one has a back, but it only supports you if you lean back. Which is not what happens when you're actually using a computer... >_>
48. My astrological sign is Aries the ram.
49. I don't really know what that means besides that I was born in/around April.
50. I like to think Metric's song Help, I'm Alive is about zombies! (It's fun)
51. Some of my favorite things to watch on DVD are BBC dramas, especially Dickens' Bleak House and Our Mutual Friend, and Austen's Emma, for example.
52. I have worn glasses since I was about 10ish-years-old.
53. Now I wear contacts more often (especially in the summer - sunglasses!)
54. There are moments in time I wish I could have back. Most of them involve a song I listened to (that totally sucked).
55. Date Movie is the worst movie I've ever seen in my entire life.
56. My favorite Girl Scout cookies are Peanut Butter Patties! =D
57. I tend to like bands I've heard from across the pond more than the ones I hear from here. (i/e THE BEATLES, Franz Ferdinand, The Kooks, Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, etc.)
58. I recently read the "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" series and really liked it.
59. I am currently reading through the Chronicles of Narnia series. I am now on Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
60. When The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring came out on DVD, my best friend and I would watch it either in part or in whole almost every time we were and one another's house. We were kind of obsessed/nerdy.
61. I have seen FOTR too many times.
62. My favorite LOTR movie is The Two Towers.
63. I have all three LOTR extended edition DVD sets and a nifty box to put them all in that I mailed in for free with a coupon that was in the Return of the King's box.
64. I am "nerdy" about only a few things. They are Lord of the Rings, Star Wars (well, for a girl) and The Beatles (kind of).
65. My favorite Star Wars movie is probably episode IV. Mostly because I've seen it the most.
66. Han Solo is my favorite Harrison Ford. And Star Wars character.
67. One of my favorite actors is Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
68. I love the movie Brick.
69. 10 Things I Hate About You and The Royal Tenenbaums are two of my TOP favorite movies pretty much ever.
70. I could watch Elf any day of the year. ("The yellow ones don't stop!")
71. I really like sweaters.
72. I am ready for cooler weather to be here so I don't sweat every time I open the door to let my dog outside.
73. I would rather be cold than hot. (You can always pile on more, but you can only take so much off, I like to say.)
74. I really like pens, markers and Sharpies.
75. I have one hold in my left earlobe and two in my right. I plan to get a second in my left earlobe soon (so I'm not so lop-sided anymore)
76. Steak might be my favorite food ever.
77. When at a BBQ restaurant, I like to order pork. And sweet potato fries if they have 'em! Mmmm-mm!
78. My fall semester at school starts this Wednesday, four days from now.
79. I still don't have all of my textbooks.
80. But I need to pay for gas in my car.
81. My hours at work suck. =/
82. I tried applying to other places, but no one will have me. And I get paid $11/hr where I'm at so I'm hesitant to really look anywhere else especially during the school year (when I want fewer hours so I can focus on studies).
83. Thinking about life makes me tired. Especially when I'm already tiredish and my chair doesn't support my back so I have to slouch forward which kind of hurts after a while.
84. I love PAPER!
85. I regularly go to Stampin' Up! workshops with my mom and her friends and make greeting cards.
86. I don't care about scrapbooking. Too involved, for my taste. And I have no photos.
87. My two favorite TV shows of all time are Doctor Who (the run since 2005) and Supernatural!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
88. David Tennant is my favorite Doctor.
89. Of the two Winchester boys from Supernatural, Dean is my favorite.
90. I have recently been obsessed with watching the show Gossip Girl.
91. It got so bad that one day I noticed my thought-voice sounded like Blake Lively.
92. I'm almost done with season 2 of GG. (There are three)
93. I have been to zero concerts this summer.
94. I am sad at this.
95. But then, I have had little money to spare on such things that are totally awesome.
96. I know only a handful of people that are even interested in some of the music I like, let alone who would want to spend $30+ to go hear it live = I have no one to go to concerts with most of the time.
97. My favorite carbonated beverage is Dr Pepper
98. My favorite pizza topping is pineapple
99. But I really like stuffed pasta better.
100. This took me an hour and forty-odd minutes to finish.

I challenge: le_battement monkeymeister silver-dot ThisCharmingMan Unicornasaurus
(Not that many of them are active nowadays... And I don't know who all has been challenged already.)

New Layout!

(I'll come back later tonight when I have more time to post a real entry.)

  2:08am
  (It's later.)

Well, I've finally done my "NuTrooper" layout idea. I'd had this idea ever since there was some musings around NuTang about having a "nuarmy" or something, spreading the NuWord. I made a couple of easy peasy avatars. I made the green storm trooper helmet avatar that I have used for a long time. I had always meant to make a "nulayout" with "nutroopers" but just never got about to finishing it.
  Until now.

As usual, it's been a little while since I blogged, so I'll just do a quick recap of my 4th of July weekend.

  Friday
Put my car into the shop. Again. This time it was a "sinking [brake] petal". I don't even know what all it was, but that's what the mechanic called it when we first took it in in the morning. Because they were super busy-full (for the holiday weekend) they weren't able to get to my car 'til Monday = me without a car ALL WEEKEND. So instead of going to First Fridays, I had (free) dinner with my parents (and free Starbucks). (Not complaining much.)

  Saturday
I honestly do not remember anything about Saturday. I think I slept 'til noon then did relatively nothing the rest of the day. Anyways.

  Sunday
  4th of July!
Schlotzky's for lunch (free cookies on Sundays! :D). Went over to my bro's house and went and hung out at a pool down the street. It was nice because besides myself, my sister, brother and sister-in-law, we were the only ones there - the lifeguards almost outnumbered us. It was nice.
Later had hot dogs at church, then went back to my brother's house for outdoor grilling, 'til it started to rain/pour. Then went home.

Mostly boring. But then I got this layout done. Hooray!
  How was your weekend?

"Have I told you lately..."
Saturday. 6.19.10 11:02 pm

  ...that I'm bored?

Let's see. This week I have

  • done laundry
  • cleaned my room
  • made a mess
  • cleaned my room again
  • made some note cards
  • etc.
Just today, I made a notepad, a sewing needle book and some postcards. (Photos soon?!??!!) All that and nothing productive. I did not wash my sheets, take a shower (yet) or do anything that would help me tomorrow. Bleeeehhh.

Something else super unproductive I did this week was finish watching Legend of the Seeker: The complete first season and The Big Bang Theory: The complete second season. "Legend of the Seeker" was corny but fun. "The Big Bang Theory" was hilarious, as usual, with highlights including Rej in a suit, Sheldon saying wittier things every episode and... other things I cannot specifically recall. Love that show!

I've mentioned Swap-bot here before, and now I shall elaborate (a little more)!
Swap-bot is a site that hosts and coordinates different kinds of "swaps" (mostly snail-mail though there are some email swaps, too) with different themes and guidelines. For example, a typical swap could be themed postcards or ATCs, whatever-you-want-in-this-envelope, card-making kit, and whatever you can think of. While most swaps are arts-and-craftsy it doesn't have to be. For example, I'm currently in a swap where everyone who's joined in sends a postcard of their favorite music artist to two other participants. While this means, for myself, that I have to make my own postcards (unless you know of somewhere I can buy two White Stripes postcards?...), it doesn't have to be!
I've had a lot of fun participating in different swaps from this site. Downside: postage adds up quickly, especially when you have to take an envelope or postcard to the post office to mail internationally. (That's why I usually try to keep with postcard or "I can fit this in a standard envelope" kinds of swaps.)
But still lots of fun times making whatsits for whoever!
